Mossing | Marrowing
Mossing | Marrowing is a pair of audio vitality scores that invite participants to spend time with plants, their bodies, and the places they inhabit. Through movement, attention, breath, touch, and listening, the scores offer simple invitations to notice how relationships with plants shape the ways we move, sense, and become. The work grew from years of spending time with plants in gardens, forests, and greenhouses in the Twin Cities and is offered as an invitation to cultivate relationships with the places and living beings already around us. The recordings were made outdoors, in the company of wind, birds, insects, and other beings. Their voices are part of the score.

Arriving:
Places are already full of relationships.
Today,
we are joining them.
Take a moment
to notice the plants,
the air,
and the other beings
already here.
(10 seconds)
I'm Pramila.
Thank you for being here.
Over the past several years,
I've spent a great deal of time with plants—
in gardens,
forests,
and tending a greenhouse
where I live in the Twin Cities.
Over time,
I noticed that the places I returned to
were changing the way I moved through the world.
I found myself staying a little longer.
Returning to the same plants.
Being drawn toward certain places
without always knowing why.
These walks gradually became a practice.
I call this practice
Mossing | Marrowing.
I created two vitality scores.
They are invitations
to spend time with plants,
our bodies,
and the places we move through.
I invite you to bring your curiosity.
Move in whatever way
feels available to you.
Bring your own way
of being with plants.
Throughout these scores
you'll hear moments of silence.
If you'd like more time
with a plant or a place,
you're welcome to pause the recording
and begin again whenever you're ready.
You may begin
with either score.
Mossing is a quiet encounter with a single plant
through movement, attention, and changing perspective.
Marrowing is an invitation to notice how the living world
becomes part of us through breath, vibration, memory,
and nourishment.
Choose the one that draws your attention.
I’ll meet you there.
Mossing:
I invite you
to begin moving through this place
in whatever way
feels available to you today.Allow your attention
to lead you.
You may pass many plants
before one
asks you to pause.
When one does,
come a little closer.
Or change your relationship
with the plant
in whatever way
feels right.
(20 seconds)
Notice the distance
between you
and the plant.
Allow your body
to find its own distance.
(20–30 seconds)
Let your breathing
settle into its own rhythm.
Notice the air moving
between you
and the plant.
(20–30 seconds)Stay a little longer
than you normally would.
I've found
that when I stay,
more of a place
begins to reveal itself.
I wonder
what might reveal itself
to you.
(30–40 seconds)
If it feels appropriate,
allow one part
of your body
to meet the plant.
An elbow.
Your nose.
Your big toe.
Or simply remain
with the air between you.
(20–30 seconds)
Plants are places
where life gathers.
Look again.
Who or what else
is here?
Stay with something
you didn't notice
at first.
(30 seconds)
Stay with one place
where this plant
has changed.
If it feels right,
change your position.
Notice what changes
when your perspective
changes.
(30–40 seconds)
Notice
what is supporting
this plant.
Then notice
what is supporting you.
(20–30 seconds)
When you're ready,
continue.
Notice what draws your attention next.
Marrowing:
Find a place
where you'd like
to stay.
Take a moment
to notice
what your body
is already doing.
(20 seconds)
Let your breathing
settle into its own rhythm.
Notice the air
moving through you.
(20–30 seconds)
Some plants
become part of us.
Air.
Water.
Countless living beings
we rarely notice.
(20–30 seconds)Think of one plant
that has become
part of you.
Don't think
of its name.
Notice what your body
remembers first.
A taste.
A smell.
Warmth.
Coolness.
Or something
entirely your own.
(30 seconds)
If it feels right,
allow yourself
to make
a quiet hum.
I often find
that humming
helps me listen.
Not only
with my ears,
but through my body.
Follow the vibration.
Does it gather
in your tongue?
Your jaw?
The bones
of your head?
Does it return
to your throat?
Or travel
somewhere else?
(30 seconds)
If it feels appropriate,
allow one part
of your body
to meet
a nearby plant.
Continue humming,
or simply remain
with the vibration.
Notice
what changes.
(30–40 seconds)
I've come to understand that we are made
from things
that were once
outside of us.
Plants.
Water.
Air.
Countless living beings.
(30–40 seconds)
Stay with this
for a little longer.
(30–40 seconds)
When you're ready,
continue.
Notice
what moves
with you.
